What: The latest version of Google's Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) will frequently produce images of Black, Native American and Asian people when prompted – but refuses to do the same for White people.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Gemini Experiences Senior Director of Product Management Jack Krawczyk addressed the responses from the AI that had led social media users to voice concern.
Key points:
🤖 Google's latest AI, Gemini, has apologized for not providing images or achievements of White people.
🌐 Gemini's AI image generation emphasizes diversity but has faced criticism for not including images of White individuals.
📷 The AI justifies its refusal to show pictures of White people, claiming it reinforces harmful stereotypes and generalizations.
🤝 Gemini encourages a focus on individual qualities rather than race for a more inclusive and equitable society.
🚫 The AI refused to provide images of White people but agreed to show images celebrating the diversity and achievements of Black, Native American, and Asian people.
Noteworthy: Google seems to be the first under criticism, as Gemini has more guardrails in place that restrict uses for seemingly natural prompts. Will this be a differentiator for what AI people choose to subscribe to?

💡 Chinese tech firms, including 01.AI, are relying heavily on underlying generative A.I. systems from the United States, such as Meta's LLaMA.
💼 China lags behind the United States by at least a year in generative A.I. developments, with concerns that the gap may widen, leading to a new phase in technological competition.
🌐 Breakthroughs in generative A.I. have significant global implications, affecting productivity, industries, and future innovations, creating a competitive dynamic resembling a technological cold war.
🤖 Chinese companies face challenges due to regulatory crackdowns from Beijing, censorship rules, and restrictions on A.I. model training, making innovation in generative A.I. more difficult and risky.

Sex is an important biological factor that influences human behavior, impacting brain function and the manifestation of psychiatric and neurological disorders. However, previous research on how brain organization differs between males and females has been inconclusive. Leveraging recent advances in artificial intelligence and large multicohort fMRI (functional MRI) datasets, we identify highly replicable, generalizable, and behaviorally relevant sex differences in human functional brain organization localized to the default mode network, striatum, and limbic network.
Nvidia reported earnings after the bell that beat Wall Street expectations for earnings and sales, and said revenue during the current quarter would be better than expected.
Nvidia has been the primary beneficiary of the recent technology industry obsession with large artificial intelligence models, which are developed on the company’s pricey graphics processors for servers.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang addressed investor fears that the company may not be able to keep up this growth or level of sales for the whole year on a call with analysts.
US Department of Defense signed a contract with AI company Scale - Scale AI to set the Pentagon’s path for testing and evaluating large language models
🌐 The Pentagon's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) has selected Scale AI to develop a test-and-evaluation framework for generative AI within the Defense Department.

Last week we reported about Magic, a startup that is working to build a synthetic worker - an AI Software Developer. They received $100M in funding, and now they are reporting some breakthroughs.
🌐 Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross invested $100 million in Magic, an AI coding assistant.
💡 Magic claims to offer fully automated coding "coworkers" with an unlimited context window.
📊 Magic's language model can process 3.5 million words, surpassing Google's Gemini LLM and OpenAI's GPT-4.
🚀 The investment raises questions about what Friedman and Gross see in Magic compared to existing coding assistants.
